How do I make a photo Instagram-ready?

Instagram only accepts certain shapes, so tall portrait photos need a square crop chosen by you.

  1. Instagram accepts photos between 4:5 portrait and 1.91:1 landscape. Most phone portraits are taller than that, so they need a square crop.
  2. In Media, photos that need one show an “IG” badge with a warning mark.
  3. Click the badge (or the photo’s “Square copy” button) to open the photo editor. It lands on Shape with the square already picked: drag the photo so the part that matters sits inside the frame, then Save.
  4. Saving makes a new square photo in Media, next to the original. That copy is the one Instagram can post; put it on the post in place of the original. If a post ever fails with “image aspect ratio … is not supported by Instagram: define a square crop on the photo and retry”, this is the fix: use “Set Instagram crop” on the post’s card, then press Retry post.
