What makes a Google Business Profile rank?

Google lists five actions that improve local ranking. Posts are not one of them, but they give searchers a reason to choose you.

Google’s ranking actions

  1. Verify your business

Google says this tells it you are authorized to represent the business, so the profile is more likely to show up in search results.

  2. Keep information exact

Businesses with complete and accurate info are more likely to show up in local search results, so hours, address, services and categories stay current.

  3. Respond to reviews

Replying shows you value the feedback, and positive reviews with helpful replies can help your business stand out.

  4. Add photos and videos

They show customers what you offer and tell the story of your business.

  5. Add in-store products

For a retail store only. A practice without a shop can skip this one; the other four are the whole list.

  6. No contact details in posts

Google may remove a post that carries unverified contact information such as a phone number or an email address.

Your profile already carries the phone number, and the Call button uses it, so the post text never needs one.

What Google says

Relevance
How well a profile matches what someone is searching for.
Distance
How far the business is from the customer who is searching.
Prominence
How well known the business is, including how many websites link to it and how many reviews it has.
Posts
Updates, Offers or Events. Not on the list of ranking actions; a post reaches people who have already found you. Archived after six months unless it carries a date range, and Google gives no posting frequency.
Paying for rank
There is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking.
Social links
One link each to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, X and YouTube, and in some regions those accounts’ event, deal and offer posts may show on the profile too.

What we do

  1. Weekly slot

One Cadence slot on the Google channel keeps a fresh post on the card.

  2. Two a week at most

Past that the posts compete with each other, and Google gives no credit for volume.

  3. A button on every post

Book, Learn more or Call is the only clickable thing on a Google post. Set it in the post’s edit dialog, under Google.

  4. Service and town in words

Every post names them plainly, the way a searcher would type them.

  5. Photos, replies, exact hours

The effort goes where Google says it counts. Reviews and the SEO audit cover the last two.

  6. Steady, never bursts

A quiet month followed by five posts in one week clutters the card and earns nothing.
