Guide

What makes a Facebook Page work for a local business?

Meta’s own list: specific categories, a profile and cover photo, an action button, recommendations on, and posts when your audience is online.

What Facebook says

  1. Specific categories

Up to three, the most specific that fit. Meta says categories are how people find you when they search for your services.

  2. Profile and cover photo

Meta says people tend to see a business with both as more trustworthy: a square logo for the profile, a recognizable part of the business for the cover.

  3. Complete the profile

Website, services, the address if people visit you, and the hours. Out-of-date hours can make a business look closed, and Meta notes Google may index a public Page.

  4. Action button and recommendations

A button such as Book now, and Recommendations turned on so customers can rate and review you. Meta says recommendations also help the Page appear in searches.

  5. A creative on every post

A clear photo, a GIF or a video, never blurry, and never one that misrepresents the business.

  6. Make posts actionable

Share an article from your site, link a sign-up form, or ask a question people can answer in the comments.

  7. Keep the message simple

A clean, consistent color scheme, recognizable images, and minimal, impactful text.

  8. Pin the big news

Pin a major announcement to the top of the Page, and unpin it when it is over.

  9. Post when they are online

Page Insights shows when your audience is online; Meta suggests a posting schedule around it.

Copy to other platforms turns a Facebook post into an Instagram or Google draft in one step, so one story serves three channels.

What Google says

What Google shows
One Facebook link on your Business Profile, and in some regions Google may show your Facebook posts about events, deals and offers there too.
Counts toward ranking?
No. Google lists five actions that improve local ranking, and activity on social media is not one of them. The platform sends people to you; the listing is what ranks.

What we do

  1. Weekly slots at the right hour

Cadence slots on the Facebook channel, set to the hour Page Insights names.

  2. Button posts for the ask

A Facebook button post carries Book now, Learn more or Get offer with a link, and no photo; photo posts carry the stories.

  3. Approve & Stage

Posts line up for the slots, so the Page never goes quiet while you are busy.

  4. Library photos, resized

Photos come from your library and are resized at publish time, so the creative is never blurry.

  5. Google reviews first

Facebook reviews are separate; the review funnel sends a happy visitor to Google, the one that counts toward prominence.
